Non sono esattamente un’anticamera degli Oscar, come qualcuno potrebbe pensare, ma gli Indipendente Spirit Awards, giunti quest’anno alla loro ventottesima edizione, sono, comunque, un termometro importante che misura lo stato di salute di certo cinema indipendente americano.
Trionfa quest’anno, Il lato positivo che si porta a casa gli ambitissimi riconoscimenti per miglior film, miglior regia, miglior sceneggiatura e migliore attrice.
The sessions incassa, invece (ed era prevedibile) i premi per le migliori interpretazioni.
Mentre non possiamo non salutare con grande piacere la vittoria di Noi siamo infinito di Stephen Chbosky come migliore opera prima.
La Cerimonia di consegna dei premi, anche quest’anno, si è svolta a stretto ridosso di quella del più famoso (magari non il più importante) premio cinematografico mondiale che avrà luogo di qui a poche ore. Anche la scelta della tempistica rimarca, quindi, a modo suo, una qualche forma di indipendenza, un suo volersi porre agli antipodi del meccanismo più strettamente commerciale ed industriale dell’Oscar.
A fronte della statuetta dorata che premia certo la qualità, ma anche la capacità di tenere al botteghino e di portare avanti la formula magica di un meccanismo produttivo importante, ad essere premiato qui è soprattutto lo spirito, la capacità di farsi portatore di un messaggio e di un’estetica non precofenzionati, ma urgenti.
Quando si guarda all’industria hollywoodiana dal punto di vista degli indipendenti si ha quasi l’impressione di trovarsi di fronte ad una realtà tutta italiana con una divisione frontale tra una piccola lobby di soliti nomi che si spartisce la grande distribuzione (e produzione) contrapposta ad un profluvio di esperienze disparate, a basso budget, che spesso non arrivano neanche a vedere la luce della sala. In realtà, però, le cose non stanno esattamente così, dal momento che i due sistemi, le due parti, pur contrapposte, non sono reciprocamente impermeabili e la grande industria americana ha, se non altro, la voglia di scavare nel mare di proposte del basso budget in cerca di possibili nuovi talenti da promuovere in serie A. Gli Indipendent Spirt Awards sono, insomma, delle importanti cartine di tornasole che potrebbero permettere a giovani e meno giovani talenti di essere notati dai grandi produttori accedendo così a finanziamenti più importanti. In Italia, invece, il sistema tende a restare chiuso e l’esperienza indipendente continua a rimanere isolata.
Quest’anno erano molti i titoli di rilievo che si sono dati battaglia per conseguire gli Indipendent Spirit Awards. Alcuni di questi non hanno ancora trovato distribuzione italiana. Altri sono usciti o usciranno alla chetichella.
